How Much is Your Tanking Really Costing You?

When it comes to tanking, there is only one chance to do it right. Designing, planning, and selecting the right membrane is key to guaranteeing the success of the project.

The Allco Volclay Waterproofing range is a great alternative to torch-on membranes. Unlike torch-on, the Volclay range can be installed in most weather conditions, whereas a rainy day will grind the application of torch-on to a halt creating a cascade effect of delays. Oftentimes, the added pressure to get the project out of the ground pushes for the installation of torch-on to be done in less-than-ideal conditions (moist walls), creating the potential for membrane failure and water ingress issues later on.

The Volclay range is also a lot quicker to install than torch-on. A good single applicator can apply 400+ m² of Voltex or 200m² of Swelltite a day, getting the project out of the ground ahead of schedule on average 2-3 weeks faster than other products.

Volclay membranes can be applied to damp substrates — there is no need to wait 28 days for the concrete to cure — saving the project precious time and money. Priming is also not required, unlike other tanking membranes. Volclay can be installed directly onto compacted slab substrates without site concrete and in some cases, no formwork is needed. It can also be pre-applied at the precast yard creating efficiencies and saving the project valuable time.

Volclay Waterstop RX

Waterstop-RX is an active bentonite / butyl-rubber based waterstop designed to stop water infiltration through cast-in-place concrete construction joints by expanding upon contact with water to form a positive seal against the concrete.

Applications include both vertical and horizontal non-moving concrete construction joints, new to existing concrete construction, irregular surfaces, and around through-wall penetrations, such as plumbing and utility pipes.

Additionally Waterstop-RX can seal around concrete pilings and steel H-piles passing through the slab. Waterstop-RX works in both continuous hydro-static and intermittent hydro-static conditions.

Volclay Swelltite is a bentonite waterproofing membrane designed for below grade masonry block, split-slab deck and plaza construction.

Swelltite is designed for waterproofing below-grade vertical and horizontal structural surfaces, as well as, above grade split-slab construction used with plaza areas, parking garages and sports stadiums.

Clause F2 HAZARDOUS BUILDING MATERIALS: Performance F2.3.1. the Volclay Waterproofing System meet this requirement and will not present a health hazard to people.

Bentonite-Geotextile waterproofing system with Integrated Polyethylene Liner, used as a damp-proofing or waterproofing membrane below ground to protect basements and other underground structures against water penetration and water vapour transmission from the ground.

The Volclay Waterproofing System has been appraised for use as:

an external waterproof tanking membrane to in-situ concrete, precast concrete and concrete masonry basement constructions subject to hydrostatic pressures of up to 2 bar (20 metres); and,
a damp-proof membrane (DPM) to slab-on-ground and basement constructions; and,
a waterproof membrane to plaza deck roof structures
