Compliance Benchmarks that Matter Most for Paint and Coatings

ISO 9001 is the International Standard for Quality Management Systems. A globally recognised benchmark for running an organisation well and producing consistent quality outcomes. The International Standard for Environmental Management — ISO 14001 — is the accreditation that evaluates processes for their environmental impacts.

Environmental Choice is an exacting government endorsed labelling system. Its broad approach looks at everything from formulations through to manufacturing processes — touching on waste, energy, and water use. Approved products are the most environmentally friendly of their type on the market in NZ. Specifications are reviewed and updated regularly, and are specific to product categories.

The New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC) promotes the benefits of sustainable buildings through its Green Star ratings. These rating tools can be applied to an entire build and have marketing value. It has requirements for some product categories but for coatings, meeting Environmental Choice specifications is a way of complying.

The Australasian Paint Accreditation Scheme (APAS) has minimum quality (and some environmental) standards for different types of coatings. There is overlap here with consumer protection laws, where products must be fit for purpose.

We believe these certification bodies are independent and rigorous enough to demonstrate our commitment to quality and responsibility. As well as those above, there are Codemark, BRANZ endorsements, Declare, MPI approvals, and life cycle analysis schemes. But whatever the label, our key focus is on helping you succeed in your projects.

In addition to external certification — as the final step in the product life cycle — we offer a Paint Take Back Service for trade, where we reuse or recycle unwanted paint and containers.
