Ventilation & Drainage Batten 10mm – VB10
Description

The VENT VB10 is a Polypropylene Ventilation and Drainage Batten deigned to facilitate passive airflow and cavity drainage between the roofing underlay or membrane and the roof cladding. The VENT VB10 prevents the transfer of dew point from the underside of the roof cladding to the underside of the roofing underlay or membrane.

  • Provides passive airflow of 8,000mm² per linear metre
  • Easy to install — manufactured in 1800mm lengths for easy handling
  • Strong and durable — when used as a vented batten on top of roofing battens, the VENT VB10 has been upgraded in strength and tested to exceed foot traffic weight requirements on the roof above
Scope of Use
  • Recommended for skillion and trussed roofs
  • Highly recommended for roofs with cladding profiles with a large area of surface contact with roofing underlays i.e. trapezoidal or deep trough profiles
  • Commercial and residential application
  • To be used as part of proprietary ventilation system
Limitations on Use

The VENT Vented Batten should be used in conjunction with other VENT products to ensure a complete ventilation system:

  • VENT Over Fascia Vent (G2500N)
  • VENT Ridge Vent (RV10P) for application on purlin
  • VENT Vented Batten (VB20)

Additional fixing screw length is required to accommodate 30mm thickness of the VB20+VB10.

Statement of Building Code Compliance

In the opinion of BRANZ, Roof Ventilation Products, if designed, used, installed and maintained in accordance with the statements and conditions of this Appraisal, will meet or contribute to meeting the following provisions of the NZBC:

  • Clause B1 STRUCTURE: Performance B1.3.1, B1.3.2 and B1.3.4. Roof Ventilation Products meet the requirements for loads arising from gravity loads, wind and impact [i.e. B1.3.3 (b), (h) and (j)]
  • Clause B2 DURABILITY: Performance B2.3.1 (b) 15 years and B2.3.2. Roof Ventilation Products meet these requirements
  • Clause E2 EXTERNAL MOISTURE: Performance E2.3.2. Roof Ventilation Products contribute to meeting this requirement
  • Clause E3 INTERNAL MOISTURE: Performance E3.3.1. Roof Ventilation Products contribute to meeting this requirement
  • Clause F2 HAZARDOUS BUILDING MATERIALS: Performance F2.3.1. Roof Ventilation Products meet this requirement

In-Service History

Passive Ventilation has been used in Canada, America, the United Kingdom and Europe for almost four decades. By introducing passive ventilation into roofs these countries have significantly reduced internal moisture and prevented what was called 'sick home syndrome'.

More recently in New Zealand, since changes to E3:AS1 1.1.4.b of the New Zealand Building Code in 2014, passive ventilation has become more widely understood and the need to ventilate the uninhabited spaces in a building has been more widely acknowledged. Industry experts BRANZ have endorsed passive ventilation as a necessity in Skillion roof types and have recommended that all roof types are passively ventilated as redundancy to eradicate internal moisture.

The NZMRM is currently revising the Metal Roofing Code of Practice to incorporate ventilation into certain roof design and strongly recommending passive ventilation in all metal roof types.  

Since the amendment of E3:AS1 hundreds of New Zealand buildings have incorporated passive ventilation into building design and application, These buildings include MOE school Reroof projects, residential new build and renovations and commercial projects.
