Scope of Use

The EFAFLEX EX series is designed for industrial environments where explosive atmospheres may be present, including chemical processing facilities, refineries, and sites handling flammable gases, vapours, or dusts. Suitable for both interior and exterior applications, these doors provide reliable operation and safety in areas requiring strict compliance with ATEX zones 1, 2, 21, and 22.

With high-speed opening and closing, the EX series supports efficient workflows while helping to contain hazardous substances and maintain environmental separation. The doors are engineered for integration with building automation and safety systems, ensuring controlled access and regulatory compliance in hazardous zones.

Built for high-traffic applications, they facilitate the safe movement of personnel and materials. Available in a range of sizes and finishes, including corrosion-resistant options, the EX series can be adapted to meet specific site and operational requirements.

Limitations on Use
  • Suitable for use only in ATEX-certified zones; control panels must be installed outside the hazardous area.
  • Operating temperature range is -15°C to +50°C; stainless steel finishes are recommended for high-corrosion or marine environments.
  • Requires stable mounting surfaces; integration with automation systems must use ATEX-compliant components.
Statement of Building Code Compliance

The product will, if employed in accordance with the supplier's installation and maintenance requirements, assist with meeting the following provisions of the building code:

  • Clause F3 Hazardous substances and processes: Performance F3.3(d)
    • ATEX Certification: These doors are designed and manufactured in accordance with the ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU, which sets requirements for equipment used in explosive atmospheres.
    • Robust Construction: Built with durable materials, EFAFLEX ATEX doors maintain structural integrity under explosive conditions, effectively containing hazardous substances and preventing their spread.
    • Ignition Source Prevention: The doors incorporate mechanical and electrical precautions to eliminate potential ignition sources, such as anti-static components and flameproof motors, reducing the risk of explosions.
    • Zone Classification Compliance: Suitable for use in various hazardous zones, including Zones 1 and 2 for gases, and Zones 21 and 22 for dust, these doors align with the classifications outlined in standards like AS/NZS 60079.10.1:2022.
    • Integrated Safety Features: Equipped with safety mechanisms such as fail-safe locking systems and emergency manual operation options.
Other Performance Attributes
  • Explosion Protection Compliance: ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU, suitable for Zones 1, 2 (gas) and 21, 22 (dust)
  • Wind Load Resistance: DIN EN 12424, up to Class 4 (spiral doors)
  • Air Permeability:
    • Spiral doors: DIN EN 12426, Class 2
