Waikato Master Builders Supreme House of the Year 2020, and winner of the coveted Workmanship Award twice over, the go-to for Craig Wallace’s team of CJW Build is an envelope created with Thermakraft product. Craig chooses Thermakraft because they “never have any quality issues, supply is always readily available and it’s great to work with."
CJW Build works with leading architects and designers. The homes are avant garde, featuring multiple claddings and architecturally designed windows and roofs. The builds are complex, and the envelope tends to be left open to the elements for longer. Craig points out that their preferred Thermakraft products have “lengthy exposure ratings and do not deteriorate or damage when exposed" and the new flashing tape (Thermaflash) is "perfect for complex junctions and openings."
What does Craig typically see specified throughout these adventurous projects? “In the early stages, we would typically be using Thermathene Orange DPM. Supercourse 500 as a damp course. We use a lot of wide width Watergate Plus wall underlay. One of our current builds has four different types of exterior claddings, ACM, brick, cedar, and aluminium and Watergate Plus can be used with any of these claddings."
Craig continues, “On the roof we see a lot of Covertek 407.” As for Craig's favourite Thermakraft product? “OneSeal, they’re so good and easy to use. We don’t need to tape around each penetration.”
Thermakraft recommends that this type of complex build might also include Drainage Mat when a ventilation and drainage layer is required and Vapour Shield, a vapour control or barrier layer used in Skillion roof construction.
Using an integrated product solution keeps it simple: one system, one warranty. Thermakraft’s target is clear, keeping New Zealand homes drier, safer and healthier.
