Located in the heart of the Auckland CBD, 155 Queen Street offers a mix of residential and commercial tenancies over 18 storeys. When the existing copper plumbing system started showing signs of corrosion, the building managers opted to replace it with Raupiano Plus — an acoustic plumbing system that was simple to install in tight spaces and would reduce water noise.
To replace the corroding copper system, the building owners needed a vertical waste water stack that would be lightweight and easy to handle in confined areas. They also wanted a system that would provide acoustic performance to limit waste water noise for the building’s tenants. While wraps and foils were a possible solution, these would have been extremely difficult to install in the existing service duct between floors. Rehau’s Raupiano Plus system provided a solution to this problem.
Raupiano Plus 110 and 160mm acoustic waste pipe was chosen for the project with Next Level Plumbing tasked with carrying out installation over 18 storeys. With short lengths and flexible rubber jointing available, the system simplified installation in areas with limited access.
For the plumbing team, the light weight of the system was a key benefit — especially in comparison to the existing heavy copper piping which had to be manually lifted and carried out. They also appreciated being able to pre-prepare the installation by securing the Raupiano Plus brackets ahead of time, ready for the pipe to be positioned.
Ultimately, the installation benefits helped the Next Level Plumbing team successfully replace the waste water stack in minimum time, while the acoustic performance of the system will offer a comfortable acoustic environment for tenants for years to come.
