Sustainable practices are at the heart of what New Zealand Wood Products Limited (NZWOOD) do and why environmental labelling matters to them and their customers, designers, architects and engineers. NZWOOD's chain of custody certification by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and PEFC shows that they can follow their products from the soil where the trees are grown, through the manufacturing process to the customer's door. It is important to NZWOOD to work with sustainable timber businesses and products and as such they are members of the FSC and PEFC. By doing this, assurance is provided that their products are produced from well managed forest and other responsible sources.

Every structural product NZWOOD imports or exports is from sustainable sources. NZ WOOD's J-Ply plywood product range and I-Built laminated veneer lumber wood is sourced from certified forests in New Zealand that are part of the chain of custody by the Forest Stewardship Council. I-Built Birch Ply is sourced from international FSC certified forests. Forest management ensures that the harvest of timber and non-timber products maintains the forest's biodiversity, productivity and ecological processes. The I-Built Hyne range from Australia is sourced from sustainably managed plantations in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. These forests are independently certified for compliance with the Australian Forest Standard AS4708(Int)-2003 (AFS) under Australian Forest Certification Scheme. The AFS has mutual recognition by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Scheme (PEFC), the world's largest forest certification organisation. Ibeams from LP are also PEFC certified. 

In addition to this, NZWOOD ensure their products perform as they should do. The structural I-Built engineered timber product range is sourced from suppliers that use third party accreditation. All suppliers are independently audited by either the Engineered Wood Products Association of Australasia (EWPAA), the American Plywood Association (APA) or the Glue Laminated Timber Association of Australia (GLTAA).
