Situated in the Waipara Valley, an hour north of Christchurch, where summertime temperatures soar above 35 deg C and plunge well below zero in winter; the winery is subjected to a diverse range of environmental challenges and resultant costs.
Given such conditions, Greystone chose to employ Steve Inwood Builders to insulate its processing and barrel-storage building with Kingspan Kooltherm insulation board. This has given the winery peace of mind, knowing the ambient temperature of the environment in which it crafts its wine is supported by the performance of Kooltherm.
Kooltherm insulation has been successfully used in the past to insulate a building used for wine storage, and at Greystone it has exceeded the precise demands this award-winning winery places on protecting its delicate product. As recognised by Greystone winemaker Dom Maxwell, "great insulation is critical to the production of premium wines."
Having the lowest thermal transmittance of any commercially available insulant, Kooltherm enables the team at Greystone Wines to concentrate on producing quality wines with full confidence in their surroundings. With construction currently underway on a building for bottling, the winery is again looking to take full advantage of the energy-saving benefits offered through insulating with Kingspan Kooltherm.
