GreenStuf Takeback Programme: Circularity in Construction

Central to GreenStuf's sustainable ethos is the Takeback Programme, designed to provide an easy and accessible recycling solution for removing GreenStuf insulation site waste, offcuts, and packaging from construction sites. By collecting and reprocessing these materials back into new insulation, GreenStuf closes the recycling loop, ensuring that valuable resources are not lost to landfills.

However, the success of the Takeback Programme relies on collaborative efforts with others in the construction industry. A recent example of this occurred when Alaska Construction, motivated by mutual sustainability values, partnered with GreenStuf to recycle Sound Solution Classic and Sound Solution Baffleblock from Oceania Healthcare's head office — a project also driven by the architects, Warren and Mahoney, dedication to sustainability.

The partnership enabled the collection and recycling of all insulation site waste, totalling 420kg, by repurposing used insulation within new timber flooring and recycling the remaining through the Takeback Programme.

The Takeback Programme is a testament to GreenStuf's dedication to environmental responsibility and sustainability. By offering a solution for recycling used insulation site waste, offcuts, and packaging, GreenStuf is reshaping the construction industry's approach to waste management. And, unlike other programmes that focus solely on new materials, the Takeback Programme sets a new standard by allowing the recycling of used materials, further reducing the environmental footprint of construction projects.

GreenStuf Sound Solution can be used in timber framed walls and mid-floor cavities for reducing airborne sound transfer. GreenStuf Sound Solution reduces resonating noise in the construction cavity thereby reducing the sound energy transferred from one side to the other. Further improvements can be achieved by using acoustically rated plasterboard, multiple layers of plasterboard, or by isolating the plasterboard from the stud.

NZBC Compliance: When installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, GreenStuf insulation will satisfy the 50 year durability clause NZBC B2.3.1 (a). GreenStuf meets the relevant clauses of NZBC E3 Internal Moisture, F2 Hazardous Building Materials, and may contribute to meeting H1 Energy Efficiency, and G6 Acoustic Design requirements.

H1 Energy Efficiency: This product will contribute to a building meeting building code Clause H1. All GreenStuf thermal insulation is created to meet with MBIE's new changes.

Fire Regulations: GreenStuf insulation may not be suitable for all applications, as stipulated in the NZBC. Please consult a fire engineer when specifying GreenStuf insulation or contact a GreenStuf account manager for further information.

Acoustic Performance: The Sound Transmission Class (STC) is the industry accepted means of determining a material or assembly’s ability to resist airborne sound transfer. A higher STC rating blocks more noise from transmitting through a construction system. GreenStuf Sound Solution will assist in reducing the resonating noise inside the construction cavity. Typical improvement in sound transmission loss through walls with the use of GreenStuf Sound Solution is an increase of 6-7 STC points, effectively reducing loud voices to a slight murmur. Typical improvement in sound transmission loss through a common residential mid-floor construction with the use of Sound Solution is an increase of 5-7 STC points.

GreenStuf Baffleblock is designed for use above new or existing Sound Transmission Class (STC) rated partition walls to enhance the acoustic privacy between spaces.

NZBC Compliance: When installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, GreenStuf Insulation will satisfy the 50 year durability clause NZBC B2.3.1 (a). GreenStuf meets the relevant clauses of NZBC E3 Internal Moisture, F2 Hazardous Building Materials.

Durability: GreenStuf has a 50 Year Durability Warranty.

Moisture: GreenStuf is not affected by moisture. Exposure to an atmosphere of 50°C at 90% relative humidity for four days showed moisture absorption by weight of less than 0.03%.

Hazardous Building Materials: GreenStuf is non-hazardous.
