This new social housing development in Manurewa, Auckland, was designed with the idea of creating a community. The project features three blocks of two-bedroom units which were built using quality building materials to provide residents with attractive, safe and long-lasting homes.
With the development totalling 1,925m², it was important to find an efficient and cost-effective cladding system that would provide long-lasting performance and minimise maintenance down the track. Dynex PALLISIDE weatherboards were chosen to deliver on all fronts while bringing a sleek classic weatherboard aesthetic to the build.
Manufactured in New Zealand, the PALLISIDE system is a high-performance BRANZ appraised cladding option with the added benefit of a 25-year warranty. Being prefinished eliminates the need for painting, ensuring minimum ongoing maintenance compared with traditional timber weatherboards. This saves time and costs, making it an ideal system for terraced housing and medium density housing developments.
Mike Loveridge, Owner of Loveridge Builders, appreciated the support received from the Dynex team throughout the project. “Andrew from Dynex offered great support and technical advice when we needed it. He was a huge help in the process and an all-round great guy.”
The installation process was straightforward from start to finish, with the builders enjoying the speed and ease of install of the PALLISIDE weatherboards. “It's definitely one of the easiest claddings to install,” commented Ricky, Site Supervisor for Loveridge Builders. “Once you’ve set up your starter strip, it's fast and simple to get boards on. It’s easy cutting, nailing and fitting, and the boards are flexible which helps for getting them in difficult areas.”
That speed — and that fact that no painting was required — helped keep the 30-unit project on track and on budget. “Once it was up there was no loss of time to paint it and we could move the scaffold asap — all cost savings that help on a project this size,” says Mike. In total, construction of the 30 units took only 10 months.
The final result is a welcoming new development with a classic Kiwi weatherboard aesthetic, providing 30 new homes that will stand the test of time with minimal maintenance. “The final finish looked awesome. We are extremely proud of the end result,” says Mike. “The developer was also extremely happy with the end finish and overall look of the development.”
When asked if he would use the PALLISIDE system again, Mike had no doubts: “Absolutely!” he said. “It saves time, saves money and the final product looks great. Less maintenance is also an added bonus!”
