Curved Glass for Dramatic Spiral Staircase

Glass, light and vibrant colours come together to bring a dramatic and fun element to this Cairns penthouse apartment.

With the colourful LED lighting in the stair treads and mirror tiles on the wall, the choice was made to use ultra-clear low iron glass — as the green 'tinge' of standard clear glass would have altered the effect of the colourful lighting.

The challenge of measuring the stair to manufacture the glass was solved with Glasshape's digital onsite glass measurement service. Glasshape's specialist technicians visited the site, and using the latest digital scanning hardware, produced electronic templates of the staircase with a high degree of accuracy.

The data was then processed into finished projected glass drawings, providing details for client sign off before production of the glass commenced. Glasshape where then able to manufacture the 15mm toughened curved glass accurately to the CAD drawings ensuring the glass fitted perfectly, saving time and money.
