Asona Provides Acoustic Solutions for 'High Tech' Interiors

'High-tech' style architecture describes an increasing number of commercial buildings with a 'nuts-and-bolts, exposed-pipes look' which highlights the technical elements of the building by externalising their workings. Thus, the technical aspects create the building's aesthetic.

These buildings present challenges when fitting acoustic ceiling and wall products into the interior design. Being a manufacturer, Asona is able to customise its product range, providing custom-fitted solutions for these creative spaces.

For example, MediaWorks Christchurch moved into the 'high tech style' Three35 building designed by Jasmax because it matched their ethos of increased visibility and the perceived transparency of their work. Without a traditional suspended ceiling, Asona developed a solution to create linear white acoustic Baffle Beams retro-fitted and direct-fixed between the concrete ceiling bays, that once installed blended seamlessly into the architect's aesthetic vision.

The refurbished Northcross Church Auditorium had high reverberation problems and a lot of structural bracing and exposed conduits. Mfive projects selected Asona's Baffle Beams, used both as sound absorbing fins and acoustic ceiling strips, as well as for the walls. Custom made and fitted Fabwall panels in 40, 100 and 150mm thickness were worked cleverly around the exposed services and bracing.

The refurbished Beaumont Centre used Asona's Snaptex stretched fabric wall system to correct the low frequency reverberation in the auditorium. The Asona Snaptex 100 System was installed on the back walls, going in between the exposed structural bracing, and additional Triton 100 Bass panels were used for the side walls to dampen and control the acoustics of this large space.
