Entering into awards for the first time can be daunting but it wasn’t a barrier for Georgia Langridge and Fleur Jourdain of Christchurch's Modi Design. The pair won three NKBA Excellence in Design awards for their Spa Retreat Ensuite: the First Time Entrant (Bathroom) Award, Creative Excellence in Bathroom Design Award and the $50k+ Bathroom Distinction Award. Reminiscent of a top-end hotel, the winning bathroom was designed for a busy couple who needed maximum space and storage with a top-end hotel feel.

Georgia Langridge explains why she chose Corian Dune Prima for the vanity top surface. “We like that Corian is soft and warm to the touch, it’s not a cold surface. We also like that it has the ability to mould into the basin.”

The Corian colour of Dune Prima was the obvious choice for this project. “Dune Prima played a big part in this ensuite as the tonal variation brought in all of the light, mid and dark tones of the room. The vanity is also the first form you see in the ensuite so we wanted a subtle impact”, Georgia says.

The Spa Retreat Ensuite features double PURE Corian 810 basins in Glacier White, capitalising on the advantage of the smooth transition between the vanity top and basin. The seamless integration between the top and basin doesn’t trap dirt and grime keeping the vanity beautiful, practical and easy to clean. Georgia likes that “it is easier to clean than a top mounted basin as there aren't lines to clean around.”

Walking into the Spa Retreat Ensuite evokes a feeling of relaxation and inspires an emotional reset thanks to the calming nature of the sinuous lines of the Corian vanity and the streamlined symmetrical lines of the wall tiles. With an ethos of each project being unique — depending on the client, brief and site — Modi love to push boundaries with their designs while remaining practical and logical. They succeeded in pushing this project to be an award-winner.
