Flooring Systems for Better Learning Environments

Designed by Jasmax, this 11,000m² education building is part of AUT South’s campus redevelopment to attract and increase university participation for South Auckland youth.

Housing a range of modern learning spaces and lecture theatres, Mana Hauora creates a new social heart for the campus. As well as a green quad outside, the internal atrium has been designed to host conferences, events and functions for both campus events, and to serve as a destination for local business and community events. Outside the events calendar, its various social collaborative learning spaces have promoted a sharp increase in students who enjoy staying on campus beyond scheduled class times. The building makes student life more vibrant, which leads to more engagement and better learning outcomes.

Dynamic education environments like this need robust flooring specifications to stand up to both the wear and tear from high use, and the need to maximise the health and safety of students, staff, and visitors. The more dirt that is removed from shoes before people enter buildings, and the more robust the finishes, the better the long-term outcomes for both people and property.

Advance is a high-end flooring specialist, and its entrance matting systems help to protect and maintain safe public spaces. The low-profile CoralTread entrance matting has an area to remove up to 90% of dirt and moisture from footwear. Less dirt means less wear and tear and cleaner air quality. And less moisture means fewer slips.

Further inside the building, atrium staircases feature Advance Flooring's environmentally friendly Neoflex range of rubber flooring. This heavy-duty rubber is made of polymerically bound recycled and synthetic rubbers, in an attractive, high-density sheet that is sound-absorbing, flexible and durable. Advance curates a range of colours and styles in flooring to meet the design aspirations of New Zealand architects, designers and their clients.
