FireZone 42
Description

FireZone 42 is a clear water-based intumescent coating used to prevent the spread of flame on timber internal surface finishes such as walls and ceilings, and increase FRR of existing timber structures.

Independently tested for compliance to the NZBC C/AS2, table 4.3, achieving a Group 1-S, the highest performance.

Tested to BS476: Part 6 & 7, Class 0 & 1, BS 476: Part 20-22: 1987, 20 & 60 minutes protection, UK Building Regulations, EU EN BSI Test to A1-B/S1/d0 of European Standards, EN13505, EN13823:202 Single burn and SBI EN11925:2 2002 Ignitability, also to EU EN 1364-1:1999, giving 66 minutes fire protection/integrity/insulation/stability. Tested to EN13501:2 (K1 10 or K2 10).

Scope of Use
  • FireZone 42 has been designed for internal use on timber substrates
  • Ensure that the substrate intended to be used is applicable for use with FireZone 42, for thickness, density and type. Consult the timber manufacturer for species details and check with Zone that it will achieve the intended use.
Limitations on Use
  • FireZone 42 system is approved for interior use only. It is not suitable for use in wet or high humidity areas   
  • The manufacturer has tested the FireZone 42 fire resistant coating system to EN 13501-1:2007, in accordance with NZBC 
  • C/AS2 Clause 4.17, BS476: Part 6 & 7, Class 0 & 1, BS 476: Part 20/22: 1987, 20 & 60 minutes protection, UK Building 
  • Regulations, EU EN BSI Test to A1-B/S1/d0 of European Standards, EN13505, EN13823:202 Single burn and SBI

Statement of Building Code Compliance

As per MBIE C/VM2 Verification Method, FireZone 42 has been tested on a Type 1 substrate – 9mm timber, achieving a B – s1, d0 classification of reaction to fire performance in accordance with 13501-1:2007+A1:2009, equivalent to New Zealand's Group 1-S Rating — as stated in table C1.1 Appendix C of the NZBC C/AS2.

In-Service History

FireZone 42 has been used in heritage building upgrades of existing structures in New Zealand including the Australis Nathan, Barrington & Sonfrana buildings in the Britomart precinct, Auckland. 

The related FireZone 92 system has been in use in New Zealand for over 10 years to upgrade timber surface finishes to a Group 1-S surface finish.
