Owens Corning — Asphalt Shingles
Description

Owens Corning Asphalt Shingles are the only CodeMark Certified Shingle in New Zealand. Owens Corning laminated shingles are specially formulated to provide dramatic colour contrast and dimension to any roof and are available in a variety of popular colours with a Class 'A' Fire Rating.

Available in two styles, Duration, and Oakridge, both come with a Lifetime Limited Warranty, are algae-resistant, and have a High Wind Warranty up to 210kph, and 180kph respectively.

NOTE: For a total high-performance roofing system, it is recommended to use SureGuard Synthetic Ice & Water Barrier with the Owen's Corning Asphalt shingles. SureGuard ice and water barrier has a specially designed peel and stick membrane that acts as an additional line of protection. The patented SureFoot Slip-resistant surface ensures excellent traction and safe installation. This is a must for all low-slope roofing applications. For use under metal, timber, tile, and shingle roofs.

Scope of Use

Owens Corning Asphalt roofing shingles have been appraised as a roof cladding for buildings within the following scope:

  • The scope limitations of NZBC Acceptable Solution E2/AS1 Paragraph 1.1, with regard to floor plan area and building height; and,
  • Constructed with timber roof framing and plywood sheathing complying with the NZBC; and,
  • Where the roof slope is 9.5 degrees or greater; and,
  • Situated in NZS 3604 Wind Zones up to and including Very High, or Extra High for the Duration Premium shingle.

In-Service History

The company, which became known simply as Owens Corning, continued to innovate and form partnerships to expand and strengthen their capabilities in the years that followed. As they found new uses for their materials, Owens Corning  launched their roofing and asphalt business in the 1960s and composites in the 1990s. Other businesses were created and divested as they grew. Owens Corning survived a hostile takeover attempt in the 1980s, supported global architectural feats throughout the 1900s and 2000s, and have consistently earned numerous awards and distinctions for safety, sustainability, corporate leadership, and product quality.
