Wool Drop-in Floor Insulation — New Build
Description

Terra Lana’s Drop-in Floor Insulation is New Zealand’s first BRANZ appraised, high-performance, semi-rigid, fibrous insulation designed to be installed prior to flooring being laid.

Insulation is held firmly in place using a proprietary strapping system, and can be installed from above prior to flooring sheet, or suspended from below.

Terra Lana insulation is manufactured from New Zealand wool along with thermal bonding technology using polyester to create a robust, structurally stable product that will never slump nor lose its loft over the lifetime of the building. It comes with a 50 year warranty to meet the durability requirements of the New Zealand Building Code.

Key Features
  • Moisture control — Terra Lana insulation is hygroscopic (can absorb and release moisture vapour) so it can help to mitigate condensation risks and mould formation within buildings whilst still maintaining thermal performance.
  • Warmth — Wool has a complex natural cellular structure that provides superior warmth in all climates, as it buffers temperature changes. Like wearing wool clothing, it improves the comfort of homes and buildings, requiring less energy to heat or cool them than synthetic insulations
  • Acoustic — Wool has a natural crimp to its structure, which provides excellent acoustic properties. Testing provided by Marshall Day Labs has proven Terra Lana insulation reduces noise transfer through walls, floors, and ceilings of residential and commercial buildings.
  • Customisation — All widths and lengths can be customised to suit the specific framing requirements of each project.
  • 50 year warranty — the combination of New Zealand wool and thermal bonding technology using polyester creates a robust, structurally stable product that will never slump nor lose its loft over the lifetime of the building. Meets the durability requirements of the NZBC.
  • Local and recyclable — new wool is sourced from local Canterbury farms, and recycled wool from carpet manufacturers' pre-consumer waste. All Terra Lana offcuts can be returned and recycled in their low-carbon manufacturing plant.
  • Safe — Terra Lana is safe to touch and can be handled without protective clothing, and has negligible VOC emissions

Scope of Use

Terra Lana Underfloor Insulation has been appraised as a thermal insulating material for suspended timber-framed floors and timber-framed mid-floors in new domestic and commercial buildings.

Terra Lana Underfloor Insulation is suitable for use under floors which have an enclosed perimeter foundation as defined in NZS 4246. It is also suitable for use where the subfloor area is not enclosed and is subject to wind, such as in open raised floors and pole houses.

Installation options:

  • Proprietary Suspension System: Insulation is held firmly in place using Terra Lana's proprietary strapping installation system.
  • Installed from above: No more crawling about under floors — specifically designed a proprietary system for suspended timber framed floors that allows insulation to be installed from above the floor joists, before the sheet flooring.
  • Suspended from below: Insulation is extra rigid for friction-fit and is suspended by proprietary strapping system installed from above before flooring.
Limitations on Use
  • Must be installed in accordance with the Installation Guide and Terra Lana technical literature
  • For existing buildings see Underfloor Insulation — Retrofit
  • Must be stored under cover and in dry conditions, and in a way that avoids excessive compression
Statement of Building Code Compliance
