IBS KalsiGroove
Description

KalsiGroove fibre cement board is a 7.5mm thick with a 2.5mm deep, 5mm wide V-shaped groove, at 100mm centres, which replicates a traditional tongue and groove style panelling. Sheets are 1200mm wide, 2400mm or 2700mm long. It is manufactured from Portland cement, finely ground sand, softwood cellulose fibres, additives and water.

KalsiGroove can be used as an internal wall lining, or as an eave and soffit cladding provided it is not directly exposed to the weather.

Scope of Use

KalsiGroove is an autoclaved cellulose fibre-reinforced cement sheet 7.5mm thick with a 2.5mm deep, 5 mm wide V-shaped groove at 100 mm centers along the sheet length. Sheets are 1200 mm (w) x 2400mm or 2700mm (l).

IBS supplies KalsiGroove fibre cement board (KalsiWAB) for use as

  • Ceiling lining
  • Internal lining
  • Wall lining
  • Cabinetry
  • Soffit and eave lining
Limitations on Use

KalsiGroove is an internal wall and ceiling lining in dry areas and areas subject to occasional splashes, and an external ceiling, soffit and eaves lining where not directly exposed to the weather.

  • in applications where a Material Group Number is required (clause C3.4(a)), the Kalsi fibre-cement board is at least 6mm thick and any waterborne or solvent borne paint coating is not greater than 0.4mm thick
  • in areas adjacent to food preparation the Kalsi fibre-cement board is at least 9mm thick and coated with water resistant paint or tiles 

Kalsi fibre-cement boards shall be installed in accordance with the installation instructions provided by IBS in its Installation Guide

Statement of Building Code Compliance

If designed, installed and maintained in accordance with all IBS requirements, the KalsiGroove product will meet the following provisions of the NZBC:

  • Clause B1 Structure — B1.3.1; B1.3.2; B1.3.3(b); B1.3.4 (B1.3.3(j) applies to KalsiGroove used as wall lining)
  • Clause B2 Durability — B2.3.1(b); B2.3.1(c) (B2.3.1(b) when used as a substrate for tile)
  • Clause C3 Fire affecting areas beyond the fire source — C3.4(a)
  • Clause E3 Internal moisture — E3.3.3 (contributes to); E3.3.4 (contributes to); E3.3.5 (contributes to); E3.3.6 (contributes to)
  • Clause F2 Hazardous Building materials — F2.3.1
  • Clause G3 Food preparation and prevention of contamination — G3.3.2(a) (Contributes to)
