KAPO Calcium Silicate Board (KAPO) is manufactured from non-toxic minerals incorporating a woven mesh, which exhibits excellent fire, sound, moisture and mould resistant properties. It is used extensively overseas as a wall-papered lining alternative to plaster-based and fiber cement boards for interior use.
KAPO Board has been appraised to be used as an interior lining relying on 400mm or 600mm stud centres or ceiling joist centres for framing and using either 6 or 9mm thick board.
The BEAL appraisal is limited to the boards and nominated jointing systems only and excludes any finishing system, such as plastered finishes or tiling systems, which must comply with the relevant clauses of the New Zealand Building Code.
KAPO Board must be used in conjunction with timber framing and other components of a wall assembly that comply with NZS3604 or in place of timber framing, with lightweight steel framing that complies with NASH 3405, in all respects except as varied herein, in order to meet the Performances of the Building Code claimed in the BEAL Appraisal.
In the opinion of BEAL, KAPO Board, if designed, and used, installed and maintained in accordance with with the statements and conditions of BEAL Appraisal C820, will meet the following provisions of the NZBC:
KAPO Board has been fire tested by BRANZ and received a Group 1S interior fire rating.
