Description

Craftstone Select are individual flat pieces of natural back-cut stone and 90 degree corner stones manually selected and shaped by the stonemason to produce an authentic full-thickness appearance. Craftstone Select stone can be used as part of the BRANZ Appraised Craftstone Real Stone Veneer System.

The BRANZ appraisal covers Select stone pieces bonded to sealed 9mm Craftstone fibre cement board. The fibre cement is fixed over timber battens to form a 20mm cavity, and mechanically anchored to the structural wall framing by stainless steel screws. The system eliminates the need for foundation footings or engineered lintels.

Craftstone Select comes in a wide variety of colours and stone types. Stone colours can be mixed to the client’s preference, and installed as a stacked stone style, or with mortar options such as pointed or bagged finishes. Craftstone Select comes with a range of matching sills and capstones available in most colours.

Scope of Use

The Craftstone Real Stone Veneer System has been appraised as an external wall cladding system for buildings within the following scope:

the scope limitations of NZBC Acceptable Solution E2/AS1, Paragraph 1.1; and,
constructed with timber framing complying with the NZBC; and,
with a risk score of 0-20, calculated in accordance with NZBC Acceptable Solution E2/AS1, Table 2; and,
situated in NZS 3604 Wind Zones up to, and including, Extra High.

The Craftstone Real Stone Veneer System has also been appraised for weathertightness and structural wind loading when used as an external wall cladding for buildings within the following scope:

the scope limitations of NZBC Acceptable Solution E2/AS1, Paragraph 1.1 with regard to floor area and building height; and,
constructed with timber framing complying with the NZBC; and,
situated in specific design wind pressures up to a maximum design differential ultimate limit state (ULS) of 2.5 kPa.

Limitations on Use

The Craftstone Real Stone Veneer System must only be installed on vertical surfaces (except for sills which must have a minimum 10º slope and be waterproofed in accordance with the Technical Literature).
The system is appraised for use with aluminium window and door joinery that is installed with vertical jambs and horizontal heads and sills. (Note: The Appraisal of the Craftstone Real Stone Veneer System relies on the joinery meeting the requirements of NZS 4211 for the relevant Wind Zone or design wind pressure.)
Installation of components and accessories (excluding battens, fibre-cement board and screws) supplied by Petros Holdings Ltd and approved installers must be carried out only by Petros Holdings Ltd (Craftstone) approved installers.

Statement of Building Code Compliance

In the opinion of BRANZ, the Craftstone Real Stone Veneer System, if designed, used, installed and maintained in accordance with the statements and conditions of Appraisal 793, will meet the following provisions of the NZBC:

Clause B1 STRUCTURE: Performance B1.3.1, B1.3.2 and B1.3.4. The Craftstone Real Stone Veneer System meets the requirements for loads arising from self-weight, earthquake, wind, impact and creep [i.e. B1.3.3 (a), (f), (h), (j) and (q)].
Clause B2 DURABILITY: Performance B2.3.1 (b) 15 years and B2.3.2. The Craftstone Real Stone Veneer System meets these requirements.
E2 EXTERNAL MOISTURE: Performance E2.3.2. The Craftstone Real Stone Veneer System meets this requirement.
Clause F2 HAZARDOUS BUILDING MATERIALS: Performance F2.3.1. The Craftstone Real Stone Veneer System meets this requirement.
