Saniflo Simplifies the Addition of Bathrooms for Large Woolstore Building

This largescale woolstore building is currently undergoing a transformation, with the large interior being broken up into multiple tenancies to make the most of unused space. The design features three new commercial units including six toilets, three showers and three sinks. Facing limited access to the gravity drainage system, the design team turned to Saniflo SFA to find an alternative solution for connecting the bathroom facilities to drainage.

“Given the scale of the building, we are contending with long length drainage distances, and connecting into the top end of the existing council sewer line, with low drainage invert levels. Gravity feed was not possible,” explains Architect Paul Duncan, Achrys Architectural Design.

The design team looked for a pumping solution that would be able to efficiently discharge wastewater to the nearest drain connection. Saniflo SFA recommended the Sanifos 1300 GR Twin Inground Pump Station as the ideal choice for meeting the needs of the large building.

The Sanifos 1300 GR TWIN is a packaged pumping station which provides an efficient solution where gravity reliant sewerage systems are not possible due to site constraints. The system features powerful dual pumps that can pump up to 11m high or 110m horizontal to ensure continuity of service, and a 1300 litre tank which provides storage capability in the event of a power failure.

This is the first time Paul has specified a Saniflo SFA system and in particular it was the packaged design of the Sanifos 1300 pump station  — which includes the pump, internal pipework, non-return and ball valve — that made it ideal for the project. “We’ve used this product primarily because it is a complete ‘drop in’ package,” explains Paul. “Most other systems would require a separate chamber, with a separate pump.”

Installation of the Sanifos pump station has been straightforward, helping to keep the project on track. “The installation seemed to go well, with quick installation, and the drainlayer seemed competent and familiar with the product,” says Paul.

Ultimately the Sanifos Pump Station has played a key role in connecting the bathrooms to drainage, and will help to ensure long-term smooth operation of the new commercial units.
