Prefabrication of exterior spaces is a relatively new concept in construction, but important factors such as weather limitations, access, structural integrity, fast installation, quality and precision, less waste and cost savings have been addressed by NZ company Outdure with the innovative QwickBuild Modular Framing System.

The QwickBuild system comprises of a suite of aluminium joists, bearers and components supplied either as prefabricated frames or as kit-set pieces. The system is designed to support decking, tiles and turf over waterproof membranes, natural ground, existing tiles / pavers or concrete.

Each prefabricated QwickBuild project is a custom designed solution, with projects varying from large scale commercial, to smaller residential projects. The made-to-measure frames ensure the exterior space is maximised for usability and durability.

Coastal Rooftop Deck Project

For this undeveloped 220m² rooftop space in Brisbane, the architect required a system that offered low height capabilities that could support a mixture of surfaces over a waterproof membrane without penetrating it. A mixture of custom 5.8 x 1.2m prefabricated frames and loose lengths were supplied for fast installation and flexibility on site. The use of QwickBuild prefabricated frames allowed for fast installation in a hard-to-access space, as well as a flush finish between interior flooring and a seamless transition between the Outdure tiles and decking. The Qwickbuild frame was installed in two days — a huge time saving on the two week installation time needed for a timber frame of a deck of this size . 

Residential Deck Renovation for Pool and Stair Area

For this 37m² space, Outdure was chosen to supply their Qwickbuild deck frame system. While a timber frame of that dimension would take approximately three days of onsite labour, the Outdure team installed the Qwickbuild frame the instant it was delivered — saving both time and labour costs.
