It’s easy to see why these homeowners didn’t hesitate to buy this place, based on these stunning Lake Taupo views. But they were also aware, from the moment they fell in love with this home, that major renovations were needed to get the most out of these captivating views.
Narrow decks at the front limited outdoor living and a large, outdated conservatory closed out much of the best space, blocking views. Top priority was therefore removing the redundant conservatory, before expanding the front deck and then extending the current glass balustrade, so new and adjacent old decks matched. However, that plan hit a snag when they discovered the existing balustrade was no longer in production and was non-compliant with current balustrade regulations.
Faced with sourcing an alternative, replica balustrade, their burden was eased with expert guidance from Andrew McCullough (HomePlus Taupo). His recommendation was the modern Edgetec Infinity frameless glass balustrade, with its similar continuous channel style. But with updated regulations requiring an interlinking top rail for glass balustrades, the homeowners were concerned that it would look completely different to the existing balustrade and could potentially obstruct the view.
Once again Andrews’s advice to fit special laminated glass panels which don't require top rails (SentryGlas), was the ideal solution as you can see from the finished photos. Powder coating in a matching Arctic White colour helped immensely with the overall cohesive look, blurring differences between the old and new balustrades.
