Futurewood Withstands Coastal Conditions at Rajah Road

On Point Projects used their great ideas around building cost-effectively to stand out from the crowd and win the contract to build 14 one bedroom townhouses at Ocean Shores in northern NSW Australia.

Known as the Rajah Road multi-residential project, Stage One consisted of four townhouses and was completed in May 2017.

The townhouses are located high on the hill to take in views of the coast line just north of the Brunswick River between Byron Bay and Tweed Heads, and are just 200 metres away from the beach — a great seaside location that embodies the wind, sunshine, salt and sand that the north coast of NSW is famous for.

Understanding the surrounding environment is critical when choosing building materials. With such a harsh coastal environment the external cladding, decking and screening needed to be carefully considered to ensure that they could stand the test of time and look good while doing it. Hardwood timber was not considered as it would require a great deal of upkeep in this environment and with sub-tropical moisture timber would be highly susceptible to rotting if left untreated.

Subsequently, Futurewood was chosen for the project with the EnviroSlat Weatherproof wall cladding being supplied in the colour Slate Grey. In addition, 70 x 15mm solid Futurewood Enviroslat in Saltbush was selected to match Futurewood 138 x 23 x 5400mm long solid composite timber decking boards.

The delivery and installation of the Futurewood composite products went according to plan and the On Point team were pleased with how easy and time-saving the products proved to be. Even more exciting for On Point is the attention that they are getting from prospective new clients based on the look and finish of the completed townhouses.
