HB Central, Queen and Lorne Streets, Auckland

This stunning preservation, connection and repurpose of two heritage buildings in central Auckland offers retail and hospitality at street level, with five office floors above. These levels include social hubs, workspaces and offices.

In the quiet spaces, the design team selected Gleam, a luxe cut pile tile with a seamless look. The practicality of under-foot comfort and acoustic dampening plus the softer, more residential aesthetic of cut-pile offers a contrast to the materiality elsewhere in the spaces. The result is a timeless sophistication befitting the context of heritage architecture.

Awards: NZIA Architecture Award 2024 for Commercial Architecture

Anthony Harper Law offices, Central Auckland

The NZIA, during the recent judging for the 2024 Architecture Awards, said of Wingate’s design that, “materials have been used creatively and to great effect.”

The design team needed to reflect the non-hierarchical culture of the firm, within the constraints of a deep floor plate with views at one end.

The curve of the building envelope was reflected throughout the design, including modulyss carpet tiles cut and laid with sweeping edges to delineate zones and accessways. The soft, shifting patterns of DSGN Cloud introduce a biophilic aspect to the space, inspired as they are by nature’s pattern and mood.
