Situated on Buller Street overlooking New Plymouth’s beautiful yet unforgiving coastline, William Johnson’s new residence was built on a 500sqm section and designed by Fabish and Jackson. Part of the brief was for the house to blend in with the surrounding area and reflect the environment, so natural colourings have been used throughout.
Specifying designer uPVC spouting and downpipes in a copper hue from the Marley Stratus Design Series accentuated this connection to the natural environment. Homeowner Mr Johnson explains, "We tried to stick to natural colours and the copper spouting was a natural fit."
Variations of copper colouring became a common theme, linking the key exterior building materials together from the soakers and the cladding to the spouting and downpipe system. Using this method, the designers have created a colour aesthetic that makes a statement while remaining harmonious to the eye.
Being a costal property, resistance to weather conditions had to be considered when choosing the materials. "Having lived by the sea, I know the effect salt has on buildings and spouting in particular," expressed Mr Johnson.
Again, Marley’s uPVC spouting and downpipes proved to be a good choice when considering the effects of salt as well as the durability and capacity of the product. As Mr Johnson noted, "In the 18 months we have been in this house, we have had every season thrown at us and we’ve had no leakages or overflows – from that point of view, the Marley product has done its job well."
