AMF Thermatex is a mineral acoustic ceiling tile with a tissue facing; in addition to its Class A sound absorption, it also offers both fire protection and hygienic treatment options. The tiles are produced in a wet felt production process.
Environmental protection starts with the manufacturing process, and by selecting the right raw materials efficient manufacturing of the product for its life cycle can be maximised. Setting the standard in production procedures and improvements in machinery and technology contributes to crucial reductions in energy use and minimal emissions of pollutants. The closed production cycle used by AMF means that water used in the process is recycled several times while dust, offcuts and waste material are reused in the manufacturing operation.
The mineral fibre tiles are made up of raw materials that are 100% bio-degradable:
- Bio-soluble mineral wool
- Organic bonding agents, e.g. starch
- Inorganic filling materials, e.g. clay and perlite.
The mineral fibre boards are painted with solvent-free dispersion paint and chalk as filler. AMF mineral fibre tiles are entirely free from asbestos and formaldehydes, which makes these a suitable choice for any commercial application, but particularly for education and healthcare projects where sustainability and environmental factors are of increasing importance to specifiers, clients and end-users.
In 2002 the decision was made by AMF to increase the scope of its Quality Management certification and to adopt ISO 14001, the standard governing the management of environmental systems. Following this change, AMF was awarded the prestigious Blue Angel eco-label for three of its most popular suspended ceiling ranges. Blue Angel is the oldest and most well-known eco-label around the world and is awarded to companies in recognition of their commitment to environmental protection.
