APL Window Solutions has launched retrofit-friendly frames in the company’s Klima uPVC range designed to fit within traditional timber rebates and be easily installed in window openings.
While updating an older home to reflect modern living presents as a challenging prospect, Klima insert frames now offer a low-maintenance, high-performance alternative to replace wooden joinery, retaining the charm of an old home with the benefits of new windows. The proportions of Klima uPVC profiles effortlessly match the aesthetics of traditional timber windows, helping to honour the look of older villas and bungalows.
Replacing outdated products with customised solutions from Klima allows homeowners to turn a poorly performing, cold house into one that’s warm, dry and healthier to live in. Klima is a good choice for the New Zealand climate, achieving a maximum 6 energy stars under WEERS (Window Energy Efficiency Rating) when used with high-performance glazing. Triple glazing is also possible for the ultimate thermal insulation in cold winter locations.
Standard Klima window and door frames are also suitable for home renovation and upgrades. For replacement windows and doors, Klima offers a standard range of formats (excluding a bi-fold format) which can be installed into any cladding. For insert windows, the Klima insert windows have a specific window frame which fits within the old timber rebate and is available in all standard awning window configurations. To ensure straightforward retrofitting, Klima uses the trusted E2/AS1 installation method.
Recent changes to the H1 clause of the Building Code require thermally efficient window frames together with high performance double glazing. For both consented and non-consented work, it’s worthwhile reviewing the current requirements as a renovation is a great opportunity to modernise the performance as well as the appearance of a home.
The range is available through Altherm, First and Vantage window manufacturers nationwide, who can also offer other retrofit profiles.
Klima products are available as standard in white but can also be supplied with other exterior colours using the 'AluClip' system where an exterior aluminium facing is used.
Standard outward opening windows are available as well as a tilt-and-turn option that offers an inward opening casement or hopper window feature.
