High Impact Floor Tiles Chosen for Les Mills Takapuna

When Les Mills Takapuna needed to replace their weight room floor, they were looking for strength, sound-proofing, durability and safety — with minimal disruption. Advance Flooring’s Neoflex High Impact Tile covered all of their requirements.

The gym offers boxing and cycle studios, music-based group training, and a weight room with top-of-the-line equipment, set over two levels above a busy shopping mall. With the weight room sitting directly above multiple retail spaces, effective sound and shock absorption were fundamental criteria when selecting the new floor.

After on-site testing for reverberation, Les Mills and the Advance team chose the Neoflex High Impact Tile, a 45mm-thick EPDM tile, featuring a high density wear layer on a recycled rubber base layer. The tile is designed for free weight and weight machine areas, absorbing noise and vibration from the impact of dropped weights and the motion of exercise machinery.

Depending on specific requirements, the recycled rubber base layer can be topped with any of the Neoflex Series surface layers. These are made from polymerically bound EPDM rubber and are available in a wide range of colourways; Les Mills chose a red granite-look surface to complement the wall colour, as well as the red upholstery of the exercise machinery.

Advance’s High Impact Tiles are also widely customisable in size and shape. Selecting a large, rectangular tile meant Les Mills simplified their installation process, with minimal downtime and disruption to members in comparison to replacing an area of continuous flooring.

Nor was there any compromise on safety. With its high ‘coefficient of friction’, Neoflex’s EPDM rubber offers excellent anti-slip properties, as well as abrasion and tear resistance. This is especially important for an exercise environment that contends with both sweat and the regular impact of heavy weights.

Designed and constructed to withstand constant heavy treatment, Neoflex High Impact Tiles from Advance provide the safe, durable, shock-absorbent gym floor Les Mills were looking for.
