Prolam PLX20 Structural Glulam Beam
Description

The PLX20 beam is an innovative structural laminated beam made from Pine radiata with steel inserted into top and bottom laminates. This increases strength and spanning capabilities being an ideal garage door lintel, floor or ridge beam.

The PLX20 beam is 40% lighter than alternative garage lintel options on the market, meaning installations are quicker, easier and less expensive.

Scope of Use

The Prolam PLX20 has been specifically designed for garage doors, wide span lintels, and ridge beams.

  • Non-visual grade
Limitations on Use
  • Not suitable for exterior use
  • Must be designed and installed in accordance with the Prolam guidance and technical literature
  • It is the responsibility of the designer to establish hold down fixings are in accordance with NZS3604:2012 or an alternative fixing solution.
Statement of Building Code Compliance

If designed and installed in accordance with the statements and conditions of the technical literature, Prolam PLX20 beams will meet or contribute to meeting the following provisions of the NZBC: 

  • Structure B1.3
  • Durability B2.3.1(a) — 50 years
  • F2 Hazardous Building Materials: F2.3.1
In-Service History

The PLX20 was developed in early 2021 after the discontinuation of the PL17 range.

Timber used for laminating is carefully selected for production and graded according to strict Prowood specifications. All timber stock is kiln dried, to 13% average moisture content, to ensure efficient bonding in the gluing operations. 

The laminations are machine finger jointed if required, with glue being cured by state of the art European press systems and controlled temperature. Prolam PLX20 Glulam products are available in non-visual utility grades.
