Specifying Roofing Industries for Sustainable Projects Just Got Easier

Roofing Industries is committed to reducing their environmental footprint by constantly striving to improve the sustainability of their operations, from raw materials through to manufacture and distribution. They are proud to announce that they now have Global GreenTag and Environmental Choice certifications for different substrates, giving architects and designers confidence when specifying Roofing Industries cladding and roofing for Homestar, Green Star and other sustainably-minded projects.

Global GreenTag Greenrate Level A

Roofing Industries has achieved Global GreenTag Greenrate Level A certification for their roll-formed metal roofing, cladding, flashing and rainwater systems using ColorCote coil products from any of their 14 branches throughout New Zealand.

Global GreenTag’s GreenRate certification is an international standard designed to meet the requirements of Green Star ‘Sustainable Products’ credits, and considers a range of factors including product ingredients throughout the product life cycle, waste reduction and the availability of greenhouse and water footprints. Roofing Industries underwent the certification process with the help of ColorCote and their EPD, achieving Global GreenTag Greenrate Level A — the highest certification available.

Highlighting the company’s commitment to sustainable building, the Global GreenTag certification means Roofing Industries products using ColorCote can be specified for commercial projects aiming for a Green Star rating.

Environmental Choice NZ

Roofing Industries products using COLORSTEEL, Zincalume or GalvSteel substrates now come with the advantage of an Environmental Choice tick — a government-endorsed independent standard that recognises the effort of manufacturers to reduce the environmental impact of their products.

This ECNZ certification means architects and designers can now achieve two points towards their Homestar or Green Star projects when using Roofing Industries roofing, cladding or rainwater products manufactured from NZ Steel at their Albany Auckland branch, as well as their Waikato, Tauranga, Taupo and Christchurch branches

Environmental Product Declarations

A recent change to Homestar criteria means EPDs are now recognised as an acceptable means of compliance under the MAT-1 Sustainable Materials Credit. This gives architects and designers the opportunity to achieve up to 1.5 Homestar points when specifying Roofing Industries roofing and cladding products made from substrates covered under COLORSTEEL’s EPD or Colorcote’s EPD — all available to be manufactured at any of Roofing Industries 14 national branches.

Roofing Industries is dedicated to helping architects and designers achieve their vision for sustainable builds. Contact the Roofing Industries technical helpline on 0800 844 822 to discuss how to achieve Homestar or Greenstar points for your project.
