The $17.5 million interchange allows easy and direct transfers between rail and bus, and will be the gateway to a high frequency busway. The new station is a significant part of Auckland Manukau Eastern Transport Initiative – AMETI.
One of the key reasons that Laminam was selected for this project was because of its durability. Laminam is a full body porcelain tile in a 3m x 1m format. The inherent properties of Laminam mean that graffiti can be easily cleaned and removed. Combined with extremely high scratch resistance, Laminam is perfectly suited for surfaces in public spaces.
On the exterior sections of the building, the Laminam panels were installed using the CS45 cassette cladding system. This system allows the use of different panel thicknesses, whilst still maintaining a flush façade. 7mm Laminam panels were used in traffic areas to give additional impact resistance, whilst 3.5mm Laminam panels were used elsewhere to minimise weight.
The exterior installation also featured customised stainless steel corner profiles, to provide a robust detail that resists impact damage.
The interior fitout was completed using the cladding systems interior wall system. This is a panelised system that allows the manufacturing to be conducted offsite, minimising installation time onsite and eliminates wet trades. The panels can be dismounted, allowing access behind panels for any potential future servicing.
