As many will be aware, in late 2015 the NZ Standards Committee put out for discussion proposed changes to the code of practice for glazing in buildings NZS4223. Because of a change in the way the current New Zealand Building Code was being interpreted, one of these proposed changes concerning frameless glass balustrades has been 'fast tracked' and will now come into force on June 1st 2016.
So what are the changes and how will they affect specifiers?
MBIE explains, "the changes will mean that all new frameless glass barriers that comply with B1/AS1 will be required to have an interlinking rail, unless the barrier is laminated safety glass and has features to retain panes of glass in the event of breakage."
Juralco has reviewed its entire range and made changes to make their balustrades compliant with the new NZS4223.3.2016 standard. Juralco's details and producer statements have also been updated to ensure that if a Juralco system is specified, the information will be readily available.
