Hon Chris Penk, Minister for Building and Construction
Chris Penk was first elected to Parliament in 2017, as successor to Sir John Key in the then-Helensville seat and re-elected in 2020 and 2023. Chris is a proud representative for the Kaipara Ki Mahurangi electorate, which includes advocating for constituents on various local issues. Now the Minister for Building and Construction, Minister for Land Information, Minister for Veterans, Associate Minister of Defence and Associate Minister of Immigration, Chris feels fortunate to be a part of the Christopher Luxon-led coalition government.
Suzannah Toulmin, MBIE
Suzannah Toulmin is the Manager Building Consenting and Practitioners Policy at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. The Consenting and Practitioners policy team provides policy advice on the building regulatory system to support the construction of safe, healthy, and durable buildings, with a focus on consenting, occupational regulation and consumer protection. Current priorities include work to deliver a more streamlined building consent system, including work on remote inspections and granny flats and mandating the approval of overseas building products and systems. Suzannah has held a number of public sector policy roles and has experience working in the private energy and resources sector.
Dr Anthony Hōete, WHAT_Architecture
Dr Anthony Hōete (Ngāti Awa, Ngāti Rānana) is a professor of Architecture at the University of Auckland’s School of Architecture and Planning and was the first Māori to be registered as an architect in the UK and in the Netherlands. He is a founding director of the RIBA chartered practice WHAT_architecture and the property developer Game of Architecture.
Olivia Collinson, Warren and Mahoney
Olivia Collinson (BAS, MArch(Prof)) has experience across multiple sectors, including education at primary and tertiary levels, arts and culture, and transport and infrastructure and uses her interest in both the arts and architecture to develop innovative design outcomes. Olivia’s rapid demonstration of skill, leadership, design, and communication excellence saw her promoted to Associate in 2023 at Warren and Mahoney. She was also named a 'Young Achiever' finalist at the 2023 Property Council New Zealand – Auckland People Awards.
Richard Deakin, Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga - Ministry of Housing & Urban Development (MHUD)
As Principal Advisor, System Intelligence at MHUD, Richard Deakin is responsible for understanding and explaining the workings of our complex housing system. He is a self-confessed New Zealand property nerd with an appetite for telling simple and insightful stories from complex and disparate datasets. Richard doesn’t just analyse property data, he works out what it means for the people affected.
Matthew Curtis, BRANZ
As BRANZ Economist, Matthew Curtis conducts research into construction quality, produces BRANZ forecasts of construction activity and manages data on construction trends. He enjoys testing anecdotal reports from the industry against data to make sense of key issues.
Ronnie Tan, CreditWorks
Ronnie Tan is the founder and company Director of CreditWorks — a pioneer in Commercial Positive Data Credit Reporting in NZ specialising in a commercial trade data database that collates trade debt information on customers so debt exposure and payment trends can be profiled, viewed and analysed, as well as offering a suite of credit reports to help New Zealanders make more informed credit and or lending decisions around who they do business with. To date, CreditWorks has the largest database of its kind in NZ and in 36 vertical industries with coverage as high as 100% of the market in some industries.
Matthew Duder, EBOSS
As Managing Director and owner of EBOSS, Matthew Duder is close to trends and developments that reveal insight into the future of the NZ building industry. With 20 years industry experience, Matthew is passionate about understanding how technology and innovation can be used to improve the building process and deliver better buildings.
Dom Hay, EBOSS
Dom Hay, Specification Marketing Consultant at EBOSS, has 25 years brand and retail marketing experience in London, Sydney and Auckland working with a variety of major brands including Unilever, Volvo, Virgin and Lion. Dom's curiosity lies in understanding human behaviour and how it can be leveraged to create engaging and effective marketing strategies for businesses.
