What is Homestar?
Homestar is a comprehensive, independent rating tool that measures the health, warmth and energy efficiency of New Zealand homes and apartments. Houses are rated on a scale from 6 to 10, and are assessed against seven categories including Energy, Health and Comfort. Other categories are: Water, Waste, Management, Materials, Site and Density and Resource Efficiency. There is also an optional innovation category.
There are two stages to a Homestar rating:
- Design: This rating assesses the full and final plans from which the home will be built.
- Built: This rating occurs after a home is constructed. It certifies that the features in the design rating have been fully implemented.
