According to Stats NZ, November 2021 recorded the the highest monthly number of 4,688 consents which is the highest number for any month on record.
“The previous record was 4,490 in the month of August 2021.” says Michael Heslop, Construction Statistics Manager, Stats NZ.
Auckland saw the highest number of new consents at 20,384 (up 25%), and surpassed 20,000 for the first time. A large proportion of growth is through the rising number of consents for multi-unit homes.
“In Auckland, the number of multi-unit homes consented in the year ended November 2021 is now triple what it was five years ago.”
Looking at consent numbers in other regions there were 7,526 in Canterbury (up 30%), 5,062 in Waikato (up 26%) and 3,633 in Wellington (up 2%).
In terms of commercial work, the value of non-residential building consents was $8.1 billion, led by strong demand for hospitals, nursing homes, and health buildings (up 152%).
