Prime Substrates
Description

Prime Panels offers a comprehensive range of substrates. These can be overlaid with veneer, melamine, HPL, acrylic, or used unpressed and finished with a lacquer or paint coating. All of Prime Panels New Zealand made standard and moisture-resistant MDF and particleboard is sustainably sourced with Environmental Choice NZ accreditation. Prime MDF FR and plywood substrates are imported from verifiable sustainable sources. 

Prime MDF FR Black creates a stunning decorative effect when used as a negative detail for panels that are perforated for walls and ceilings. Rated E1 for formaldehyde. Prime MDF FR MR is now rated E0 for formaldehyde and has a slight green tint. Prime MDF FR has been tested according to EN1350 and achieves Euroclass B-s1,d0. 

Prime also offer three stunning ply options — Birch, Feather and Gaboon and available in moisture resistance, strength or lightweight options. Prime Plywood can be supplied raw, or overlaid with Prime Laminate or Prime Veneer. Note that plywood is a natural product that can be affected by humidity which can cause bowing or twisting.

  • MDF Standard available in three lengths — 2440 x 1220mm, 2745 x 1220mm and 3050 x 1220mm, available in a range of thicknesses from 4.75 - 30mm
  • MDF MR available in two lengths — 2440 x 1220mm and 2745 x 1220mm, available in a range of thicknesses from 12mm - 30mm
  • Rated E0 for formaldehyde

Prime MDF FR: 

  • Flame retardant MDF
  • MDF FR MR available in three lengths — 2440 x 1220 mm, thickness options of 12, 15 and 18mm
  • MDFF FR MR larger sheets sizes of 2750 x 1220 mm and 3050 x 1220 mm are 12mm thick
  • MDF FR Black available in additional 2440 x 1220 mm and 2740 x 1200mm.  Panel thickness is 12mm
  • Prime MDF FR has been tested according to EN1350 and achieves Euroclass B-s1,d0
  • Prime MDF FR MR meets E0 for low formaldehyde and Prime MDF FR Black meets E1 for low formaldehyde

Prime Particleboard:

  • Moisture resistant option
  • Standard Particleboard available in 2440 x 1220mm and in thicknesses of 12, 16, 18, 25 and 30mm
  • MR Particleboard available in 2440 x 1220mm and in thicknesses of 12, 15, 16, 18, 25 and 30mm
  • Rated E1 for formaldehyde

Prime Plywood: 

  • Available in sheet sizes 2440x1220mm
  • Various thickness options from 6mm to 36mm
  • Prime Plywood is sourced from suppliers with required environmental accreditations
Scope of Use
  • Interior use only
  • Wall linings
  • Kitchen, bathroom and laundry cabinets
  • Commercial and residential furniture
  • Wardrobes and shelving
  • Shop fittings and displays 
  • Birch Ply and Gaboon Ply meet Environmental Choice requirements when overlayed with laminate or veneer
  • Gaboon Ply suitable for high-moisture areas
Limitations on Use
  • Not suitable for exterior use
  • Should not be used in areas exposed to high moisture and humidity levels, or in areas in regular contact with water
  • Any exposed substrate should be sealed before service
  • Birch Ply and Feather Ply not suitable for high-moisture areas
