Construction of this Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities Onehunga apartment building began earlier this year with the Main Contractor McMillan & Lockwood. It has progressed significantly over the past few months.
This new residential development on the corner of Onehunga Mall and Mount Smart Road included removing three existing outdated properties, which allowed for construction of a new modern five-storey building, with a total of 40 apartments, eight on each floor.
The main structure is built mainly using concrete and steel materials, with in-situ concrete forming inter-tenancy walls, between individual apartments, and interior walls and ceilings lined with plasterboard finishes throughout.
Interior contractor EI Build was engaged by McMillan & Lockwood for the fit out for the internal and external walls and ceiling installation systems. There were a few challenges along the way. For instance, some concrete tilt slab walls weren’t perfectly flat which presents an issue when needing to achieve a Level 5 surface finish on walls built to finish within millimetres of design specifications.
Eurotech Interiors engaged local technical team Steel Rollformed Products (SRP) for a site visit, and advice on options for levelling-out the concrete tilt slab walls that could be treated, roll-formed and supplied to site all within a very short time frame.
SRP supplied a new mini 40mm x 0.55BMT steel stud and track system, based on standard existing SRP stud and track profile design, installed as per standard SS walls, with brace fixings at mid-height, back to concrete tilt wall slab behind for rigidity and impact resistance.
