St Kentigern College Gets a Copper Look ... That Lasts

Unfortunately for Auckland's prestigious Saint Kentigern College, the copper spouting that was integral to the contemporary architectural style of the Goodefellow Block meant it was a repeat target for metal thieves.

"We've twice been hit by thieves who have taken all of our copper metal spouting and downpipes from the block. The building requires 140 linear metres of spouting, so it was a very costly replacement every time we had to put new copper spouting up," says Rodger Villis, Maintenance Property Supervisor at Saint Kentigern.

Villis began looking for an alternative spouting system that would retain the existing look of copper, yet wouldn't attract thieves.

"In accordance with the prestige of the school, it's important that anything on school property that is damaged or needs replacing be reinstated with premium products," says Villis, who requested some Marley Stratus Design Series spouting and downpipe samples.

Consistent with the original copper metal spouting, Villis settled on Copper Typhoon spouting with an 80mm round downpipe and is very pleased with the finished result.

"The metallic finish looks just like copper; it delivers the premium style and design aesthetic we were after, but with the comfort of knowing the Goodefellow Block's spouting and downpiping system won't be at the mercy of thieves for a third time."
