Metwood is a game-changing coating system for aluminium substrates that provides the warmth and beauty of timber, with all the benefits and durability of aluminium.
Suitable for both internal and external applications, Metwood's low maintenance finishes have most commonly been used on external cladding, louvres and soffits. The finishes have featured on a diverse range of projects, from retirement villages, commercial buildings and schools, to residential houses and apartment developments. Increasingly, Metwood is also being used for interiors where a softer timber look is preferred, and fire rating or durability issues dictate the use of aluminium.
Achieve a timber look with a Group 1-S or Type A fire rating
Metwood has obtained a Group Number 1-S internal fire rating and a Type A external rating. Essentially, as Metwood is a thin coating, it doesn’t affect the fire rating performance of an aluminium system. As a result, a timber look can be achieved in a wide range of situations, such as on an internal ceilings, or at height on a multi-level apartment building.
Woodgrain, patina and marble finishes to suit your project
With hundreds of different finishes available, you can find a finish to match your requirements, whether that is a light, subtle, dark or bold woodgrain finish, there is something for every project. And it's not just woodgrains; patina, and marble finishes are also available. Being machine made, you can ensure consistency of finish across a project, and even over time as a multi-year development progresses.
Photorealistic finishes thanks to advanced powder coating technology
Metwood is made in Auckland, through a two stage process. First, the aluminium is powder coated, and then through a sublimation heat transfer process, the pattern — which is a photographic image of real timber that has been printed on a film — is transferred out of the film and into the powder coating. This results in the pattern being embedded into the powder coating, much like a tattoo.
A long-lasting, tried and tested solution
Metwood is a long lasting product, backed by Metwood’s recently released improved warranty which now provides 10 years protection on the actual pattern, as well as the existing 25 years warranty on the underlying powder coating.
The powder coating uses a special powder that is 300 time more scratch resistant than normal powder coating, which makes it hard wearing, resulting in far less damage to the product through transportation and installation.
Friendlier on the environment
Metwood is not only cost effective, but the process is also environmentally friendly compared to other products. Powder coating does not produce any volatile organic compound, and while the sublimation inks are not designed to biodegrade, they are not made from any harmful or toxic substances. Aluminium is an excellent product, with a long life span, while also being infinitely recyclable. It is light, strong, and doesn’t warp or rot, and is impervious to insects, making it a great product for many situations.
