Completed in late 2015, Fonterra's new global headquarters are located at the corner of Halsey and Fanshawe Streets in Central Auckland. The building has six above-ground levels with an average area of 2,200m² and has a maximum occupancy of 2,000 people.
Dormakaba worked closely with the Jasmax team for over a year before construction began — from the earliest design stages of the project, through to the workplace testing strategy phase with Jasmax and Fletcher Construction. Once into construction, the dormakaba focus turned to working with their partners, principally Hardware Direct and Thermosash on delivery. Working closely with their partners, they coordinated local and international procurement from dormakaba plants in Germany, Singapore, China, Malaysia and Australia as well as the local manufacturing plant, to ensure seamless, just-in-time supply for this complex and high quality building and fit-out.
Dormakaba products featured in the new headquarters include Moveo Glass Movable Walls and Semi-Automatic Movable Walls which enable Fonterra staff to close off or open different areas of the building — allowing for added flexibility of use. Dormakaba hardware is used throughout the building, from sliding door systems and door closers to elegant door furniture, ensuring a seamless solution.
The design was recognised at the 2016 Interior Awards held in Auckland, where Jasmax took home the top prize in the Workplace (over 1,000m²) category for their impressive work.
The Interior Awards jury commented, "The Fonterra headquarters is a seamless weaving of architecture and interior design, corporate and national identity. The design process shows a well-researched and meticulously-tested workplace strategy using an extensive range of furniture typologies and creativity-inducing break-out zones."
