Keeping in natural light in commercial and office environments allows buildings to be more energy efficient while enhancing tenant productivity. However, at certain times of the day, the harsh sun can easily become a nuisance causing issues such as glare, heat and harmful UV exposure. The new 3M Daylight Redirecting Film allows building owners to keep the natural light inside whilst mitigating the burdens of solar heat gain, glare and fading of furnishings.
The film comprises of both daylight redirecting technology as well as a built in diffuser. The Micro-structured prisms direct as much as 80% of sunlight upwards while letting light extend as far as 40 feet into the building. This helps provide the benefit of natural light for occupants, which also reduces the need for artificial lighting, and can contribute to up to 52% in lighting and energy savings.
3M Daylight Redirecting Film is installed in the upper portion of the window, allowing the sunlight to be directed upwards towards the ceiling, penetrating deeper into the building. This reduces glare and discomfort caused by direct sunlight on occupants. Additionally, 3M Daylight Redirecting film blocks up to 99% of ultraviolet light, providing better protection for tenants, furnishings and interior finishes.
Compared to existing light reflecting strategies, 3M Daylight Redirecting Film is cost effective and easily integrated into new or existing windows. It requires no extra hardware or infrastructure, and little to no additional maintenance or special cleaning. The film works throughout the day, even when the sun is at a low angle.
3M Daylight Redirecting Film comes with a commercial limited 10 year product warranty. Optimising natural light creates a better environment for any building.
