Statement of Building Code Compliance

Relevant Building Code Clauses:

  • B1 Structure: Performance clauses B1.3.1, B1.3.2, B1.3.3 a) self-weight, b) imposed gravity loads arising from use, i) fire.
  • B2 Durability: Performance clause B2.3.1 c).
  • C3 Fire affecting areas beyond the fire source: Performance clause unclear.
  • C6 Structural stability: Performance clause unclear.
F2 Hazardous building materials: Performance clause F2.3.1.
  • H1 Energy efficiency provisions: Performance clauses H1.3.1 a) provide adequate thermal resistance, b) limit uncontrollable airflow.

Statement of how the building product is expected to contribute to compliance:

  • B1: Hatch structure uses common building materials and has been demonstrated to be able to span between supports under its own self weight, for the range of sizes given.
  • B2: Based on material properties and history of use. Unihatch Fire Rated Hatches are accessible and so are required to have a durability of at least 5 years when installed in a dry, internal environment. This is achieved through applying a pre-primed surface on the MDF, which is to be painted using a quality paint. Exposed steel components are powder coated, while other steel components are electro-galvanised.
  • C3, C6: Unihatch fire rated hatches have been tested to AS 1530.4:2014; Fire-resistance tests for elements of construction. Details of fire resistance ratings achieved, as well as installation instructions can be found in the technical literature – “Fire rated hatches ceiling installation guideline” and “Fire rated wall hatches (2-way tested) installation guideline”.
  • F2: Unihatch hatches are safe when handled. There are no requirements for this product in order to comply with AcceptableSolution F2/AS1, First Edition Amendment 3, 2017.
  • H1: Unihatch Fire Rated Hatches can be used in combination with other parts of the building system, including insulating materials, to achieve required wall and ceiling insulation R-values as specified in H1/AS1.
