Award-Winning Education Projects in NZ: What's On The Floor?

Heritage Carpets has a history of supplying flooring to education projects throughout New Zealand, from Universities to primary and secondary institutions.

modulyss is a repeat favourite, given the colours available and the sustainable features including air quality and recycled content, making it a meaningful contributor to Green Star points.

modulyss featured in numerous projects in the 2024 NZIA Architecture Awards, including these two projects in the education sector.

The Pā, Waikato University, Hamilton

A bi-cultural gateway to the University Campus, the Pā is designed to offer spaces that are flexible and versatile, accommodating the varied and changeable functions needed by faculty and students.

The 27 colours of First Forward from modulyss offer a great palette to work with, alongside the refined pattern of First Define. Eco-credentials, durability, budget and design were all considerations for carpet selection for this high-use project.

Ngākōroa Primary School, South Auckland and Onehunga Primary School, One Tree Hill, Auckland

Jasmax are masters in design for education. Sibling schools Mangapikopiko and Ngākōroa Primary were co-designed under commission by the Ministry of Education, striving to set a benchmark for enhanced and inclusive learning and teaching experiences, as well as connecting to the community with respect to the cultural identity of the mana whenua. Alongside this directive, the design for these these two new schools was in essence replicated, providing tangible cost savings.

Onehunga Primary School creates an efficient footprint, with a remarkable 3 learning levels above a level for cars (unusually tall for New Zealand primary schools). Accommodating flexibility and future proofing for an expanding role were key components of the design. Using Millennium Nxtgen on the floor across all these schools allows for consistency of design, yet individuality with 36 colours to select from — important prerequisites for carpet selections included sustainability, durability and budget.
