Designed as a large open space, the hanger unfortunately included a vast number of reflective surfaces and the unwanted echo created from visitor voices made the hanger feel small and crowded. The challenge for Autex was to keep the focus on the planes by providing an acoustic solution that would reduce distracting background noise.
Autex worked with Studio Pacific Architecture to include over 3000m2 of GreenStuf AAB 20-100 utilizing black fibre to bring out the colour in the planes and complement the raw commercial design. AAB is a cost-effective solution for projects that require a large amount of product. It works well across all frequencies but a key feature is its ability to work at the low, hard to reach frequencies.
As Greenstuf AAB is a non-toxic, non-allergenic, non-irritant product it was able to be installed completely exposed, providing maximum sound absorption whilst complementing the rigid design of the hanger. To enhance the overall appearance of the GreenStuf AAB, mechanical anchors were used to fix the product to the wooden battens.
GreenStuf AAB is manufactured from 100% polyester fibre and contains a minimum of 45% already recycled fibre (from PET plastic). Committed to best practices, Autex manufactures under ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 Quality and Environmental Management Systems with zero waste going to landfill.
GreenStuf AAB returned the hanger to a museum-like environment that visitors expected and with its 50 year warranty will control the acoustics for years to come.
