Asona Acoustic Cloud Panels Chosen for $17m School Health Centre

The health and fitness centre cost $17 million and houses a 25m swimming pool with a moveable floor, a learners' pool, fitness centre and a 250-seat spectator gallery. It is one of the biggest building projects throughout the Epsom all-girls' college 100-year history.

Designed by architecture firm Architectus, Asona’s suspended Cloud Pool Panels were chosen to cover the large expanse of the pool area.

Asona Cloud Pool Panel is a proprietary high-sound absorbing acoustical panel designed specifically for swimming pool ceilings and moisture-laden environments. The Cloud Pool Panel has a 50mm acoustic core and is foil backed with a concealed aluminium frame to prevent condensation and corrosion. The panels are faced and edge wrapped with Sonatex, giving a white glass matt composite finish which has also been treated with a silicone water repellent coating.

The 50mm thick glass fibre core absorber provides very high sound absorption to NRC 1.00, ISO 11654 and αW 1.0, and the panels are dimensionally stable in high humidity.

New Zealand made and low in embodied energy with 80% recycled content, it has a group fire rating of 1S, making it the perfect choice for this school project as controlling sound reverberation and the use of moisture repelling materials were of equal importance.
