According to Stats NZ, in the 12 months to the end of January 2021, 39,881 new dwellings were consented. In January 3,025 new dwellings were consented, with townhouses/flats and units continuing to reflect the largest area of growth. “Consents for stand-alone houses have remained relatively flat in recent years, whereas multi-unit homes have increased significantly,” Construction Statistics Manager, Michael Heslop said.
In the January 2021 year, commercial consents totalled $7 billion, down 5.8% from the previous 12 months. The commercial building types with the highest values were education buildings, storage buildings and office, administration, and public transport buildings.
