Specifying Steel Framing

Bracing design and installation is one area we get a lot of questions about.  For houses within the scope of the National Association of Steel-Framed Housing (NASH) Standard Residential and Low-rise Steel Framing Part 1 document (this is the same scope as NZS 3604) you can use the same method as that used in NZS 3604-2011 Section 5 to determine the wind and earthquake loads and required BU’s for the project.  Some individual frame manufacturers have their own specific brace panels and you could obtain the ratings on these by contacting the frame supplier.

Winstone Wallboards and NASH have also worked together to produce an Ezybrace system that can be used with any of the steel frame systems produced in New Zealand.  You can download the spread sheet and simply select the "GIB Ezybrace 2011 (NASH)" version which includes data sheets on each of the 4 bracing panels used.

Including the data sheet in the project documention allows people on site to access the information needed to ensure the panels are correctly installed.
