Solvent-based or Water-based Stains?

When it comes to staining wood the move to water-based products is well under way and for good reasons.

Water-based decking oils have increased durability compared to the solvent-based oils and this, combined with the ease of water wash up along with being able to get the job done before the inevitable rain shower make them an obvious choice.

This is a photo of exposures of Cabot’s Aquadeck (a water-based decking oil) compared to Cabot’s Decking and Furniture Stain. The Aquadeck is outperforming the Decking and Furniture Stain and this difference will become even more significant after a longer time outside.
