Avoiding Outside Mould: When You Don’t Want a “Green” Building

Unfortunately paint films are susceptible to adhesion failure if attacked by these, not to mention the green slimy look not being in fashion this year.

The only way to prevent mould growth outside is by using products that have mould/algae inhibiting characteristics.

Dulux Weathershield X10 and Cabot’s exterior stains all have powerful fungicides in them to keep the appearance looking good for longer.

Dirt attached to the coating is ideal food for algae and mould spores so higher gloss finishes perform better for mould resistance due to there being less nooks and crannies for mould to attach.

An annual wash down with a mild hypochlorite based cleaner (bleach) makes a big difference as does growing plants a bit further away from the buildings.
